DAYTON AUDIO PCS8-4 Subwoofer Speaker

The Dayton Audio PCS8-4 is a 20.32cm (8") woofer designed for building, repairing or replacing compact subwoofers. Its 3.5cm (1.4") voice coil, its 4 Ω impedance and its power handling of 150 W RMS, with a maximum of 300 W, allow it to be paired with many active amplification modules or passive configurations, while its frequency response of 40 to 1,000 Hz and its resonance frequency of 43 Hz ensure a rendering suited to subwoofer applications.

With a sensitivity of 90.3 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, a total quality factor Qts of 0.49, an equivalent air volume Vas of 0.72 ft³ and a maximum linear excursion of ±5 mm, it can produce a substantial bass level from moderate amplification power, while remaining compatible with low-volume enclosures. This design relies on a ferrite motor, a four-layer voice coil mounted on an aluminum former and a ventilation system running through the coil former, the pole piece and the area beneath the suspension, in order to promote heat dissipation during sustained listening.

The treated gray paper cone, the inverted dust cap and the large-roll rubber surround combine mechanical strength, excursion control and consistent finish, while the shallow-flange stamped steel basket makes integration into a baffle easier when the available depth is limited. The PCS8-4 is also the direct replacement for the woofer used in the Dayton Audio CS800 powered subwoofer, making it suitable both for restoring existing equipment and for building a new subwoofer, a bass module or a compact DIY loudspeaker.
