The Shanling SM90 is a streamer with a built-in DAC, designed to centralise digital playback whilst ensuring high-precision digital-to-analogue conversion. It supports PCM streams up to 32bit 768kHz and DSD512, utilising a dual AKM AK4493S DAC architecture combined with FPGA-based digital processing to ensure consistent and temporally stable playback.
Designed for integration into a connected Hi-Fi system, it combines extensive compatibility with streaming services and network protocols with local playback via USB, NAS or internal storage, thereby covering all digital media needs. This approach is further enhanced by an Android 12 platform optimised for bit-perfect playback, whilst relying on comprehensive connectivity to ensure smooth and stable streaming across a variety of setups.
Shanling SM90: Extensive connectivity
The Shanling SM90 offers extensive compatibility with leading streaming apps (Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, Apple Classical, Amazon Music, Presto Music, KKBox), providing direct access to their catalogues without the need for an intermediary, whilst support for Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready ensures native control via their dedicated interfaces. This approach is further enhanced by DLNA and AirPlay 2 compatibility, enabling integration into a multi-source home network.
In addition to streaming, local files can be played back via USB storage or from a NAS, allowing you to centralise high-resolution music libraries without any platform restrictions. This versatility is reflected in the Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity, which supports LDAC, AAC and SBC, as well as internet access via Wi-Fi 6 and an RJ45 port.
Shanling SM90: Dual AKM DAC
The SM90 is based on a dual AKM AK4493S DAC architecture, enabling balanced signal conversion whilst improving channel separation. This design supports PCM streams up to 32-bit/768 kHz as well as DSD512, thereby extending compatibility to high-definition audio formats whilst maintaining consistent playback across all digital sources.
Shanling SM90: ARM Cortex processor
The overall processing is powered by a 64-bit ARM Cortex-A55 processor paired with 4 GB of RAM, enabling smooth handling of simultaneous applications and audio streams whilst minimising interruptions caused by multitasking. This hardware platform runs on Android 12, the implementation of which is complemented by the proprietary AGLO system, which bypasses the system’s audio mixer to ensure bit-perfect output, thereby preserving the integrity of the digital streams right up to the conversion stage.

The aluminium chassis ensures mechanical rigidity, minimising unwanted vibrations, whilst the glass front panel features a 4.96-inch touchscreen, providing direct access to playback and navigation functions.

The linear power supply is based on a 35 W toroidal transformer, which provides a stable power supply whilst minimising electromagnetic interference. This design helps to reduce electrical background noise, resulting in a cleaner power supply to the digital and analogue stages, thereby contributing to the overall stability of the audio signal.
Shanling SM90: Digital processing using FPGA
The SM90 features an FPGA developed by Shanling, which manages and optimises digital signal flows, whilst two separate crystal oscillators (45.1584 MHz and 49.152 MHz) ensure precise synchronisation of sampling frequencies. This combination reduces jitter by adapting the clock to multiple audio standards, thereby ensuring more stable conversion and consistent timing.
Shanling SM90: Internal storage
The 64 GB of internal storage allows you to store a music library directly, whilst the inclusion of an M.2 SSD slot enables a significant expansion of capacity. This configuration allows the SM90 to be used as a standalone audio server, whilst maintaining fast access times and smooth handling of high-resolution files.
