Specialising in the design and manufacture of high-end loudspeakers and loudspeaker cabinets, Atohm also designs and offers amplification modules with a very high level of performance. The S500-X Atohm amplifier module includes many features and specifications:

• Ice output stage Power™ with 500W RMS at 4Ω. Class D technology, ensuring an excellent efficiency of 80% and a high damping factor, making the module compatible with any load impedance greater than or equal to 3Ω. Great musicality and generous power in a very small footprint.
• Peak limiter section with two levels: 0dB and -1dB with "Soft Clipping". When clipped (excess input level), a sinusoidal signal is transformed into a square wave signal containing an infinite number of perfectly audible odd harmonics (distortion). In a subwoofer application, this distortion distorts the sound and allows the subwoofer to be perfectly located because it contains high frequencies. The clipping limiter associated with the low-pass filter stages (variable or LFE) reduces or eliminates clipping distortion.
• X-GUARD technology overcomes the disadvantages of a conventional subsonic filter by ensuring that the speaker excursion never exceeds an absolute limit (risk of breakage, very high distortion) regardless of the amplitude of the input signal. This technology preserves the signal and its phase (unlike a subsonic filter). The extreme bass is more faithful, the connection with the main speakers more homogeneous and the speaker protected. The S500-X offers two internal settings (X30 or X35) via jumpers, in addition to the two settings available on the front panel: X-GUARD1 and X-GUARD2 (refer to the S500-X manual).

It is possible to connect the module via the pre-out/subwoofer outputs of a preamplifier/processor or directly to the speaker outputs (in parallel) of a conventional stereo amplifier. The S500-X module can also be by-passed to high performance HiFi broadband (mono block) via a simple internal switch. In this case, only the gain control remains active. This can be used, for example, to create monitor loudspeakers.
