DAYTON AUDIO PSS555-8 Subwoofer Speaker

The Dayton Audio PSS555-8 is a professional bass speaker of 53.34cm (21"), featuring a 11.43cm (4.5") voice coil and designed to produce high sound pressure levels up to 1000W RMS at 8 ohms. Its linear excursion reaches 11 mm in each direction at 70% of BL, i.e. nearly 4 liters of displacement per stroke, while its sensitivity above 96dB promotes strong sound pressure with controlled amplification efficiency. The high-energy ferrite motor maintains a constant force despite heating, while the vents in the core, air gap and frame promote thermal dissipation of the voice coil by limiting power compression. This motor system also integrates a copper shorting ring intended to reduce inductance and distortion, including during prolonged use.

Beyond this displacement capacity, the treated and reinforced paper cone, the two silicone suspensions and the wide tuned triple-roll surround maintain a controlled excursion, while the cast aluminum frame preserves airflow and the rigidity of the assembly. Finally, its 8 ohm voice coil allows two- or four-speaker configurations, in bass-reflex enclosures, rear horns or tapped horns intended for professional applications with very high bass demand.
